Summer Blooms Giclee Print

I have a fondness for lightship baskets because they are tied into the history of Nantucket. When the whaling industry was growing off the coast of Nantucket, the state of Massachusetts commissioned “lightships” to provide visibility for passing ships in the hopes of preventing shipwrecks. The crewmen aboard these lightships had lots of idle time and wove “lightship baskets” during the day since the need to guide ships was primarily after dark. I often incorporate lightship baskets in my Nantucket-themed paintings. I particularly loved doing this piece with multiple baskets filled with bright summer flowers.
