The first thing one notices when arriving in Sanibel is the lack of multi-storied hotels and condominiums. They are not allowed and this is one reason that Sanibel is considered such a pristine escape.  Sadly, the island was badly damaged during hurricane Ian.  I painted this piece to reflect the beauty of Sanibel and the broken fence shows the fragility of the area.
