And if you don’t have respect, it’s only a matter of time before the ocean teaches you to get some.”- Laird Hamilton    When I was a teenager, I often watched my brother surf on Siesta Key Beach.  I was mesmerized by the task of paddling out with the hope of catching that one wave that would be perfect.  He never gave up and I believe that all these years later, those waves taught my brother a lot about life.  Oftentimes, the wave would knock him off his board and I would anxiously wait to see him pop up out of the water, struggling for air.  Other times, he would make his way out past the sandbar only to wait for a dinky wave that didn’t provide a ride at all. Regardless, he never stopped trying and he always found a way to smile even when the waves defeated him.
